The Smart Alternative to Owning a Car
AutoShare is Toronto's first - and favourite - car sharing network, 100% Canadian and locally-owned. We're dedicated to providing greater mobility and personal freedom to people living in Toronto; and, to reducing carbon emissions and pollution through efficiency and choice. Our goal is to have a shared-vehicle within a 5 minute walk of anywhere in the city; at every TTC station; and at the end of your street. We know that car sharing is crucial to the long term health of our urban environment - and economy.
History
In the mid-1990s, a news story about European car sharing brought this market-based solution to air quality and traffic problems to the attention of a few enterprising Canadians. And so it was that on October 6, 1998, AutoShare was launched with a group of 16 pioneering members sharing 3 cars in Riverdale, the Annex and St. Lawrence Neighbourhood.
Since then, AutoShare has grown across Toronto, with more than 10,000 individuals, families, businesses and government departments sharing cars instead of owning their own. For car sharing on other cities, please see CarSharing.net or CarSharing.ca.
Community
AutoShare loves the city of Toronto, and as part of our commitment to our community, we provide financial support and/or free service to the following organizations: Evergreen, Hot Docs, InsideOUT, Small World Music, The Stop.
Environment
In August 2008, AutoShare was a founding signatory to the North American Car Sharing Industry's Code of Ethics, which includes a commitment that "our businesses should protect and improve our environment, promote sustainable development, and conduct business affairs in a way that is socially responsible." More information about our commitment to the Environment can be found
here.
