Fewer cars on the road, and less CO2 in the air
It is estimated that every member of a car sharing organization reduces their carbon footprint by as much as 1.2 tonnes of CO2 per year, on average, as a result of changes in their new lifestyle. Moreover, each AutoShare vehicle eliminates as many as 10 privately owned cars on Toronto's roads.
An AutoShare members survey in 2008 found that each member relies on a car for only 4% of their travel needs, and most often chooses alternative methods of transportation such as biking or public transit.
